Health Care
St. Lucia has a fair-quality health care system. All visitors are encouraged take out adequate comprehensive medical insurance which should cover, among other essentials, medical evacuation. Medical treatment can be very expensive and serious cases are usually referred overseas (to neighbouring islands of Martinique or Barbados), incurring air ambulance costs.
Primary health care services are offered at a number of health centres located throughout the island. Medical and pharmaceutical services are available at least once a week. Inpatient, outpatient, and accident and emergency services are provided at the two general hospitals namely Victoria Hospital and, St. Jude's Hospital. There are two district hospitals (Soufriere and Dennery) that offer primary health care services and limited secondary care and emergency services.
There are a number of private health professionals and private facilities which provide specialized medical and dental services.
The following are some of the medical facilities that are accessible to visitors during their stay in St. Lucia.
