Saint Lucia Jazz Festival
The St. Lucia Jazz Festival is by all standards, the islands most prestigious and successful event. From its inception in the early 90s, the St. Lucia Jazz Festival has grown to achieved international recognition; being regarded as the premiere Jazz Festival in the Caribbean region, and a ranking among the top five Jazz Festivals in the world. The Festival is a series of concerts held over a ten-day period in May, bring together fusing elements of jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, and world rhythms from some of the worlds greatest artists in the music industry. The main concerts include Jazz on the Square, Tea Time Jazz, Jazz in the South, and Jazz at Pigeon Point National Park.
Jazz on the Square is a popular week-long event among St. Lucians and visitors alike. The Derek Walcott Square, in downtown Castries, becomes a central liming and hangout spot where free concerts run from midday to tea-time, and continues from 6:00 pm into the evening. Visitors find this as a great opportunity to hangout with St. Lucians, listen to great music from local and other Caribbean artists, and to sample local food and drinks. Jazz at Pigeon Point National Park is a two-day open air picnic style event which, essentially is the highlight of the entire festival and includes the main stage artists and performers.
